Where to eat or drink after an activity

After skiing or a ride, warm up by a fire, share a platter by the water or find a taproom with bike storage.

Nothing creates a thirst or the need for a feed like a day on the mountain or the trails.

Whether you've skied Coronet Peak or The Remarkables, ridden laps above town or pedalled the lakeside tracks, this guide points you to the nearest fire, beer garden or deck to swap stories over. It's grouped by where you finish, so check the distance from your trail or lift on a map. Riding the Gibbston River Trail into wine country? The cellar doors, tavern and cheesery along it are in the wine day guide: Gibbston by bike.

Après ski in Queenstown

There are dozens of places to relax and refuel in Queenstown after a day on the slopes. Ease into après ski with cocktails or local beers as a DJ spins the decks, a platter by the fire, a good burger, or sharing plates. Compare the day's runs and prepare for the night ahead. Check kitchen hours if you’re planning to eat later.

Venues near Coronet Peak and the Wharehuanui Trail

Coming down from Coronet Peak's ski field or bike park, or finishing the Wharehuanui Trail or a ride through the Shotover Gorge? Arthurs Point is right on your way home. Sink into a beanbag in a sunny garden bar, grab an après feed at a brewery over the river, or keep pedalling through to Arrowtown for a cold one at the end of the ride.

Walk, ride, refuel: Frankton Track & Twin Rivers Trail

The Frankton Track and the Twin Rivers Trail are easy, flat lakeside riding and walking, and the reward is waiting at the end. Lock up the bike at a taproom by the marina, stop for a bite at the water's edge, or settle onto a sunny deck at Kawarau Village for pizza and burgers. In winter, a fire pit on the lakeside terrace keeps the chill off after dark.

From Ben Lomond laps to Queenstown cafés & bars

Riding gondola-assisted laps on the Ben Lomond trails? You're only minutes from the centre once you roll out at the bottom of the trails. Refuel a few paces from the base, find a beer bar with generous bike racks, or join the mountain bike crowd where locals go for a night out. Whether you can bring your bike or gear inside varies, so ask when you arrive.
