Frankton
Italian restaurant in Frankton, serving lunch and dinner.
Inspired by the intimate neighbourhood restaurants of Italy and the laid-back feeling of everyone’s favourite day of the week, SUNDAYS is a character-filled neighbourhood eatery set inside a beautifully restored 1933 church. Awarded a MICHELIN Bib Gourmand in 2026, it’s all about seriously good food, great drinks and bringing people together.
Neapolitan-style pizzas are the hero of the wood-fired menu, with light, flavourful sourdough bases that puff up perfectly around the edges. They’re topped with everything from locally made pepperoni and nduja to locally grown oyster mushrooms.
Beyond pizza, the menu is made for sharing, with pastas, seasonal vegetables and Italian-inspired plates designed to sit happily alongside a pizza or be devoured on their own. Think nonna’s meatballs, arancini, wood-fired Tuscan cheese and plenty of seasonal produce.
Drinks-wise, spritz and sangria lead the way, alongside SUNDAYS signature cocktails designed to be fun, fresh and seriously drinkable. You’ll still find the classics you know and love, plus a boutique wine list celebrating Central Otago with a little Italian influence. For beer drinkers, six taps pour local favourites, with plenty more tucked away in the fridge.
Settle in inside the charming church, grab a spot on the covered patio by the fireplace, or head out to the lawn while the kids play on the playground and say hello to the friendly horses and goats over the fence. From long lunches and afternoon drinks to pizza with the family, there’s a spot for everyone at SUNDAYS.
